• Mark Tumeo was appointed dean of the University of North Florida College of Computer, Engineering and Construction and awarded tenure as an engineering professor. He formerly was vice provost for research and dean of the College of Graduate Studies at Cleveland State University. He also was a faculty member in the Department of Civil and Environmental Graduate Engineering Programs and was director of undergraduate programs.
• Jacksonville-based Solantic announced the sale of its privately owned medical care centers to Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe. The New York-based firm joins CEO Michael Klein to form a new ownership and management team. Solantic, formerly owned by Gov. Rick Scott, operates 32 centers throughout the state. It was formed in 2002.
• St. Luke’s Hospital launched a 30-minute ER campaign designed to reduce long waits in the emergency room. The goal is for each patient to be seen by a physician or physician’s assistant within 30 minutes of arrival to the St. Luke’s emergency room. “We understand the last thing people want to do is sit in a waiting room when they are not feeling well,” said Donnie Romine, president of St. Luke’s Hospital. • St. Johns Riverkeeper Inc. is accepting applications for a new St. Johns Riverkeeper starting today. Earlier this year, Neil Armingeon announced that he is stepping down in 2012 as the St. Johns Riverkeeper. The citizen-supported group advocates for the St. Johns River.
