Daily Record readers don’t hold back on their political views.

Two of the 13 Weekly Poll questions during the second quarter concerned potential presidential candidates.

Two-thirds of readers did not consider Donald Trump a viable presidential candidate and, in response to another question, 77 percent considered Mitt Romney a better presidential candidate than Sarah Palin.

Poll questions from April-June concerned politics, consumer and work force issues and social media, among others. The results are not scientific, but they indicate public opinion.

The widest range of responses, in addition to the Romney-Palin question, came in gas prices and banking.

Asked if they bank online, 80 percent of readers said they did.

Asked if rising gas prices are real or manipulated, 88 percent of readers said they thought the prices were manipulated.

Should gas prices reach $4.50 a gallon, 68 percent of readers said they would consider changing their mode of transportation.

Still speaking of transportation, almost half – 48 percent – of readers said they bought a new vehicle within the past three years.

While voting was closer in other areas, there still was a divergence of opinion or experience.

Of those driving to work, most did not have to pay to park. Almost two-thirds, 63 percent, said they did not have to pay for parking on the job.

Once the job starts, employers might want to keep watch. While the majority remains awake, 41 percent of readers said they have fallen asleep on the job.

At home, 59 percent of readers use a landline telephone, while 41 percent use a cell phone only.

Asked if readers’ email or social media accounts had ever been hacked, 67 percent said their account had not been hacked.

Still, a third had found their accounts high-jacked, possibly notifying their email contacts that they were stranded in Scotland or in other international lands and needed immediate cash.

Back to government, 63 percent of readers did not think elected officials should be paid a salary on par with private-sector jobs. And 68 percent of readers said that nonprofits, including houses of worship, should be required to pay real estate property taxes.

Voting was close on the question of whether young people have it harder today than young people did 10 years ago. Readers were split, with 53 percent saying younger people had it harder and 47 percent said they did not.

This week’s question is, “For everyday purchases, which do you use most often: Cash, debit card, credit card or check?”
