Former Mayor John Peyton’s official portrait has taken its place in the waiting area in the mayor’s office at City Hall. The exhibit includes framed depictions of the City’s line of former chief executives, beginning with Haydon Burns, who served as mayor from 1949-65, followed by Lou Ritter, Hans Tanzler, Jake Godbold, Tommy Hazouri, Ed Austin and John Delaney. Peyton served from 2003-11, following Delaney’s terms from 1995-2003. The subjects were garbed in the traditional coat-and-tie until Delaney, who is shown in a casual pose with his suit jacket slung over his shoulder. Peyton’s portrait is notable in that he’s the first mayor depicted not wearing a necktie.
