• Jacksonville Fraternal Order of Police President Nelson Cuba was chosen to serve another term as the Florida National Trustee, joining 42 other elected state representatives from across the country to form the National FOP board of directors. Also, Jacksonville FOP Second Vice President and state of Florida First Vice President Lonnie C. Miller Jr. was named Florida FOP Member of the Year for his service.
• Media has been notified of a Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce Cornerstone event with Ireland’s Atlantic Way — in Ireland. The “Jacksonville visits Atlantic Way” networking forum is planned 3-5 p.m. June 24 at the Westpark Business Campus in the Shannon region. The address rings familiar to this area, along “Atlantic Avenue.” A Cornerstone delegation is traveling June 22-24 to Ireland to continue promoting economic development between the areas. Atlantic Way operates similarly to Cornerstone.
• Gov. Rick Scott appointed Adam Hollingsworth in Jacksonville to the board of Enterprise Florida for a term that began Monday and ends July 1, 2014. Scott also named Foley & Lardner Tallahassee lawyer Christopher Kise to the board, succeeding Marty Fiorentino of Jacksonville. Both are subject to state Senate confirmation.
• A Jacksonville Bar Association Ask-A-Lawyer event is planned 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at Faust Temple Church of God in Christ at 3328 Moncrief Road. The JBA and the Northwest Jacksonville Community Development Corp. are offering the free service. Attorneys will meet with people in individual consultations of 10-15 minutes. The events are offered four times a year. Those interested are encouraged to attend.
• The Jacksonville Aviation Authority said that it has received state support to transform Cecil Airport into a 21st century commercial spaceport. Space Florida officially designated Cecil as a “Space Territory” on June 9. The Florida Department of Transportation now has legal authority to fund spaceport-related transportation facilities within Cecil to better accommodate horizontal launch space travel. Cecil recently received grant funds from the Federal Aviation Administration for the development of a Spaceport Master Plan. JAA can now pursue funds to design and construct new roadways, taxiways, and assembly and payload facilities.
• The Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida will host a half-day workshop for nonprofit executives about “How to Navigate City Hall and the City Budget Process.” It will be 8:30 a.m.-noon June 24 at City Hall in City Council Chambers. • The “Bring the Noise” letter-writing campaign to support Jacksonville’s ports collected about 5,000 letters at a reception Thursday at the port authority cruise terminal to send to elected officials. • SMG Assistant Marketing Manager Stacey Steiner has accepted a position as a social media strategist with Renaissance Creative Services in Jacksonville. SMG manages entertainment venues for the City, including EverBank Field and the Baseball Grounds, Arena, Times Union Center, Osborn Center and Equestrian Center.
• The Pawfessionals, the Jacksonville Humane Society’s young professionals group, will host its second annual “Pawzzle Crawl” fundraiser from 1-6 p.m. July 16. The event will be a pub crawl through the Beaches Town Center. Each bar will give “crawlers” a puzzle piece and people who collect all pieces will be entered to win a drawing for prizes at the official “Pawzzle Crawl” wrap party.
