• Big property sale at the C level: Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio and his wife, Linda, sold their Glen Kernan Golf & Country Club house for $1.95 million to PSS World Medical President and CEO Gary A. Corless and his wife, Ruby Ogaz Corless, according to Duval County property records. The warranty deed was dated May 18 and recorded June 8. The Del Rios listed a current address along Beach Avenue in Atlantic Beach.
• Soccer fans will have an opportunity to compete for a “World Cup” during a new tournament July 23-24 and 30-31 at The Bolles School. The inaugural Jacksonville Sister Cities Association World Cup soccer tournament, in coordination with the men’s Beaches Adult Soccer League, will feature soccer matches between area soccer players, with each team representing one of Jacksonville’s eight Sister Cities, all for a chance to claim the JSCA World Cup title. • San Jose Catholic School 6th-7th grade teacher Carla Chin is a star, or at least shooting for one. Chin is among 250 teachers from 27 countries selected for a full scholarship to the Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy program at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala. Chin will attend Friday through June 24. The program is designed to help teachers of students ages 10-14 move beyond the standard math and science curriculum with supplemental teaching techniques developed through real-life astronaut training. That training includes a high-performance jet simulation, scenario-based space missions, land and water survival training and state-of-the-art flight dynamics programs.
• Hollywood film director Joey Travolta, the older brother of actor John Travolta, returns to the University of North Florida this summer for the two-week HEAL Film Camp, sponsored by the HEAL Foundation, a Ponte Vedra Beach-based nonprofit that supports the families of children diagnosed with autism. The camp is scheduled 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday June 20-July 1. About 50 campers, ages 10-17, will write, direct, act in, film and edit a 30-minute film which will include an animated segment that campers will create using a computerized animation software program. It is being produced by Karen Sadler of FILMLAB Productions. The short film documents the children’s day-to-day experiences during the camp. Travolta will provide creative and production services.
• The Burrito Gallery made the first changes to its menu in nearly seven years. New additions include beef barbacoa tacos and burritos, queso dip, vegan hummus and a veggie wrap.
• The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce Health Council hosts keynote speaker Jennifer Braddock of the YMCA at its meeting July 7. Braddock will present “Diabetes Epidemic and Prevention” at the 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. event at Brighton Bay Resort Style Living at Baymeadows Road and Florida 9A.
• Speaking of the council, it plans the Jacksonville Health Council Forum July 28 featuring David Hunnicutt, president of the Wellness Council of America, at the University of North Florida University Center. The event starts with the lunch and presentation 11:30 a.m-1 p.m., followed by a 1:30-3 p.m. workshop.
