• Gov. Rick Scott will join Alvin Brown during Brown’s first full week as Jacksonville mayor when the two take part in the grand opening of the Keystone Industries Inc. and Vulcan Materials Co. shipping terminal in the Talleyrand area. The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce issued invitations to the July 6 event. It’s at 9 a.m. at 1915 Wigmore St. The chamber said that those attending must be on the RSVP list for security reasons.

• A traffic pattern change has taken effect at the intersection of Gate Parkway and Town Center Boulevard to help alleviate traffic congestion entering the St. Johns Town Center from Gate Parkway. Look for the signs and signals.

• The Jacksonville Humane Society sent three staff members to help the ASPCA and the Joplin Humane Society care for about 1,300 displaced animals in Joplin, Mo., after a tornado killed more than 150 people and destroyed thousands of homes in late May. The employees will help with efforts to find homes for displaced animals and to help reunite animals with their owners, and also help with volunteer management and aiding in animal care.

• Jacksonville-based Firehouse Subs announced that the former COO of Lone Star Steakhouse and Texas Land & Cattle has begun developing Firehouse Subs in Dallas. Ryan Franklin will own and operate one restaurant, which will be used as his training restaurant, and develop a total of 80 restaurants over the next several years. That will make Texas the third-largest concentration of Firehouse Subs outside Florida. Firehouse already operates 18 restaurants in Dallas, which Franklin now oversees. Firehouse is a 432-unit chain.
