• From left, student Alen Kaidic, teacher Deidre Pinkney and students Meri Logoreci and Lexus Walton of Wolfson High School won the 2011 North American Virtual Competition, an online “Battle of the Banks” that tests teens’ business and money-management skills. The contest is funded by the Citi Foundation. In winning the Junior Achievement Banks in Action annual competition, “Team Florida” competed with teams from the U.S., Canada and Guam.

• Jacqulyn Perry, executive director of Beaver Street Enterprise Center, received her National Business Incubator Association Management Certification.

• WJCT’s “First Coast Connect” captured first place in the “Call-In Program” category from Public Radio News Directors Inc. for work produced in 2010. Program producer and host Melissa Ross accepted the award Saturday.

• The CoreLogic research service reported that the rate of foreclosures in the Jacksonville area among outstanding mortgage loans was 8.5 percent in April, up 1.89 percentage points from April 2010, when the rate was 6.61 percent. The national foreclosure rate was 3.47 percent for April, 5.03 percentage points lower than Jacksonville.

• The mortgage delinquency rate also increased in Jacksonville. CoreLogic reports that in April, 13.38 percent of mortgage loans were 90 days or more delinquent compared to 12.98 in April 2010.

• Mayor-elect Alvin Brown’s inauguration week events continue today as the Children’s Inauguration takes place 1-4 p.m. in Hemming Plaza Downtown. The event is open to the public. Brown’s sons, Joshua and Jordan, will take part in a mock swearing-in and then Brown will speak about the importance of civic engagement and voting. Circuit Judge Virginia Norton will participate.

• A public information workshop is scheduled 4:30-6:30 p.m. today at the Hampton Inn & Suites at Airport Court about an additional access road to Jacksonville International Airport from Interstate 95.The proposed roadway would connect Airport Road and Pecan Park Road on the north side of JIA and includes widening Pecan Park Road from two to four lanes. Construction is estimated at $48 million but is not funded. The Florida Department of Transportation continues to work on the design.
