The Rotary Club of Jacksonville hosted more than 50 members of the North Florida Council Boy Scouts of America 2011 class of Eagle Scouts for lunch Monday at the Omni Hotel. Also a guest of the club was Tito Perez, national commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America.

The club, often referred to as “Downtown Rotary,” has maintained the tradition for many years and annually selects one of its members to recognize for contributions to scouting. This year’s honoree was Michael J. Lanahan.

“Having been an Eagle Scout myself, I know the degree of work and commitment required to attain this award. What you have learned will help you the rest of your life in whatever you do,” Lanahan told the Eagle Scouts.

When asked to raise their hands if they are former Eagle Scouts, many members did so. Even more are parents and grandparents of Eagle Scouts.

The 2011 North Florida Eagle Scout class added the names of 268 young men to the roster of those who have earned the highest achievement, the fourth consecutive year with a record number of new Eagle Scouts.
