The 60-day 2011 Legislative session began March 8. Rep. Charles McBurney, a Republican representing District 16, is one of the members of the Duval Legislative Delegation.

McBurney was elected to the House in 2007 and subsequently re-elected. The Daily Record will feature legislators during the session.

What is the biggest issue facing Northeast Florida this session?
Creating jobs, improving our economy and maintaining a balanced budget in light of our current economic conditions remain the biggest issues facing Northeast Florida.

What will your role be in resolving those issues?
Work with my colleagues to craft and enact legislation to create a favorable economic climate for business expansion and recruitment of businesses in Florida.

What bill are you sponsoring or supporting that you consider most significant?
CS/HB 253 concerning limited liability companies. This legislation would create certainty and uniformity concerning liability of members in limited liability companies. The present uncertainty in the law affects hundreds of thousands of business in our state.

Do you have support for it?
The legislation has already passed its first subcommittee and the Judiciary Committee. There is a general consensus that such legislation is necessary and urgent.

What is the hottest legislative issue this week?
HJR 7105 (HB 1207) relating to campaign financing and HJR 7103 (HB 7103) related to agriculture.
