• Jacksonville Community Council Inc. will undertake an “Early Childhood Study,” dubbed the “1-2-3” study, based on the age group to be researched. It’s the result of a $40,500 grant from The Chartrand Foundation. Research starts next month and the study kicks off in the fall for a May 2012 completion. JCCI Executive Director Skip Cramer said it will be the 9th education study and the 72nd study overall. He invites those interested to visit www.jcci.org.

• The University of North Florida will be featured at 8 p.m. Sunday on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover Home Edition.” UNF offered scholarships to three young women who will be featured on the Mother’s Day episode. Ashley, Taylor and Gina Prewitt are Middleburg residents and live with Carrie “Coach” Prewitt, a volleyball coach and physical education teacher at Middleburg High. If the Prewitt girls meet UNF admission standards, they will be able to attend on full, four-year scholarships.

• The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce launched a monthlong campaign to promote the 2011 Business Expo and Downtown revitalization. “Starting or Growing a Business Downtown” is the focus of the expo, scheduled June 1 at the Hyatt Downtown.
