Fourth Judicial Circuit Public Defender Matt Shirk appointed four new assistant public defenders to the Duval County Office.

• Tiffany Poore returns to the Public Defender’s Office as assistant public defender in the Felony Unit where she recently was re-assigned to the Major Crimes Unit. She has three years of experience as an assistant public defender in Jacksonville and comes back to public service after spending a year and a half in private practice. She is a 2006 graduate of Florida Coastal School of Law and a 2002 graduate of Florida State University, where she earned a degree in history.

• Lisa Gilbert becomes an assistant public defender in the County Court Unit in May. The December 2010 graduate of Florida Coastal worked at the Public Defender’s Office as a volunteer and later as a Certified Legal Intern. She graduated from LeMoyne College in Syracuse in 2007 with a degree in criminology.

• Shannon Brooke Schott has been appointed an assistant public defender in the Juvenile Unit after spending two months volunteering for the office. Originally from Jacksonville, she worked for a local law firm after graduating from the Stetson University College of Law in 2010. She did her undergraduate work in political science at the University of Florida.

• Chase Sorenson joined the Public Defender’s Office as an assistant public defender in the Juvenile Unit in April following his admission to The Florida Bar. Sorenson returns to his hometown after his graduation from the University of Miami School of Law in 2010. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2006 from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
