• Mayor John Peyton tapped John Anderson to fill an empty seat on the Jacksonville Port Authority board of directors. Anderson, retired CEO and president of Patriot Transportation, also serves on the board of the Jacksonville Public Education Fund and Jacksonville University Aviation Advisory Board. If confirmed by City Council, he will fill the seat vacated by Herschel Vinyard Jr., who was appointed by Gov. Rick Scott as secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection.
• K.J. Choi of Korea, who became the first Asian to win The Players Championship this past Sunday, has pledged to donate $200,000 of his winnings through the K.J. Choi Foundation to the victims of the tornado-hit areas in the southeastern United States. “When I heard the news about the tornadoes, not long after the Japan tsunami disaster, I knew I had to do something to help them as well,” said Choi, an eight-time winner on the PGA Tour.
• Gov. Rick appointed Lynn Pappas to the University of North Florida board of trustees. Pappas, of St. Augustine, is a partner with Pappas Metcalf Jenks & Miller. She succeeds Edythe Abdullah and is appointed for a term beginning May 18 and ending Jan. 6, 2015. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
• Theatre Jacksonville will bring the Broadway musical “The Drowsy Chaperone” to the stage June 10-25. The play is based on the book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, with music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. The show at Theatre Jacksonville will be directed by Dave Thomas, with music direction by Samuel Clein and choreography by Curtis Williams. It is sponsored by Regions Bank.
