Emergency Services & Homeless Coalition of Jacksonville Inc.

Mission
ESHC coordinates efforts to prevent and reduce homelessness and shares the vision of ending homelessness.

Serving Jacksonville
The Emergency Services & Homeless Coalition of Jacksonville Inc. was formed in 1978 by a group of social services agencies and Downtown religious leaders concerned with the issues of poverty and homelessness. The coalition became incorporated as a 501c3 nonprofit organization in 2000 upon becoming the lead organization for the planning of homeless services in Duval County.

Those served
Duval, Clay and Nassau counties. We are a coalition of more than 40 member agencies that provide services to persons who are homeless or extremely low income. Currently there are more than 1,100 homeless school children in Duval County, 800 in Clay County and 125 in Nassau County. On any given night, there are there are more than 6,000 of our neighbors who are homeless.

Biggest challenge
Knowing that there are not enough resources to help those who are truly in need.

Biggest satisfaction
Working with the most creative, dedicated and efficient organizations that make a difference in our community every day.

Hometown
I have lived in Jacksonville longer than any other place. I graduated from high school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and my family is still there.

First experience with community serviceĀ
Two weeks on the Black Feet Indian Reservation in North Dakota my sophomore year in high school. It was an eye-opening experience for me.

Your job before ESHC

Upcoming events
We will have our annual ice cream social in August.
