It was an opportunity to put faces with voices and catch up with friends they hadn’t seen in a while.
The annual “Spring Fling” hosted by the judicial assistants of the Fourth Judicial Circuit welcomed about 180 people to the Duval County Courthouse Annex Wednesday. Lunch consisted of spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and a variety of desserts.
“This was great,” said Jan McCallister, who has been a legal assistant in both public and private practice during her more than 40-year career. “I’ve seen so many people today that I just don’t see on a regular basis anymore.”
It wasn’t just judicial assistants filling the jury assembly room. Judges, attorneys and legal assistants from private firms were also invited.
“This is also our annual fundraiser,” said event organizer Audrey Ivory, judicial assistant to Judge Pauline Drake. “We raise money to pay for a lobbyist to represent us in Tallahassee. The lobbyist represents all judicial assistants in Florida not just the Fourth Circuit.”
When the buzz of people coming and going from the event died down as people hurried back to work, Ivory talked about what she enjoyed about the event.
“It’s great to be able to mingle with nice company,” she said.
