• Jacksonville-based Firehouse Subs appointed Vincent Burchianti as chief financial officer. The appointment was made in July. He was vice president of finance and technology for Firehouse Subs. Burchianti oversees finance, technology and human resources, and is charged with the company’s long-term business plans, managing investor and banking relationships and protecting the company’s core financial model. Former CFO Stephen Joost, who became City Council president in July, remains a partner, board member and adviser with the company.
• Jet’s Pizza is expanding into Jacksonville. It will open in Harbour Village, along Atlantic Boulevard. The Sterling Heights, Mich.-based chain has more than 200 locations in 13 states.
• Look for dd’s Discounts, part of the Ross Dress for Less chain, in the Regency area at 9840 Atlantic Blvd., near Regency Square Mall. A City-issued building permit shows a build-out of 22,096 square feet at a project cost of $827,937. The Miken Corp. is the contractor. A spokeswoman for Ross said she could not confirm plans.
• The City issued a permit for AJP Consulting & Construction to build out space for Hot Wok at 6765 Dunn Ave., No. 324, at project cost of $73,000.
• Baptist Medical Center South plans to open a 20,000-square-foot, $11 million expansion of its emergency center Nov. 14. The expansion more than doubles the size of the center. It adds 16 private patient rooms, bringing the total number to 33. It also adds three new triage rooms for patient assessment. The enlarged center can accommodate up to 70,000 visits a year. More than 41,000 visits were made to the emergency center in 2010.
• Starting with Eastern Standard Time on Sunday, landscape irrigation will return to no more than one day a week across the 18 counties of the St. Johns River Water Management District. The mandatory restrictions apply to water withdrawn from ground or surface water, from a private well or pump, or from a public or private water utility. Watering is allowed on Saturday at addresses that end in an odd number or have no address; on Sunday at addresses that end in an even number; and on Tuesday at nonresidential addresses. No irrigation is allowed between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
• Gov. Rick Scott appointed Jacksonville lawyer Michael Ossi to the Florida Film and Entertainment Advisory Council. Ossi is president and founding partner of Ossi, Najem & Rosario. His clients have included John Travolta, the New York Yankees and the William Morris Endeavor Entertainment Agency. His term began Thursday and ends Aug. 20, 2014.
• The governor also appointed Dr. Daniel Gesek of Jacksonville to the Board of Dentistry. Gesek is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and partner of Imray and Gesek DMD PA. His term began Wednesday and ends Oct. 31, 2015. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
