• Baptist Health President and CEO Hugh Greene has been installed as the Florida Hospital Association’s 2011-12 chair. The primary role of the Tallahassee-based association is to advocate on behalf of hospitals at the state and federal levels on issues that will assist its members in their mission of community service and care to patients. It consists of 205 hospitals and health systems and 1,300 professional members from across the state. Greene serves as the 2011 chair of the JAX Chamber.

• The City issued a permit for Perry-McCall Construction Inc. to handle alterations for First Baptist Church of Jacksonville at 124 W. Ashley St. for work on the second floor of the preschool building at a project cost of $500,000.

• On the industrial side, the City issued a roofing permit for North American Roofing Systems to handle a project for Rex 2010 LLC at 136 Eastport Road at a project cost of $460,132; Brasfield & Gorrie will build 4,500 square feet of mezzanine office space for the Saft battery plant in AllianceFlorida at Cecil Commerce Center at a project cost of $860,000.

• The St. Johns River Water Management District is reviewing a permit for an expanded Omni Amelia Island Conference Center. The permit application describes an expansion for a new ballroom and associated service areas as well as a new parking garage.

• Urban Land Institute North Florida said Florida’s five ULI District Councils have been awarded a $25,000 grant to plan and execute a statewide conference in June. “The State We’re In” conference will be June 7-8 in St. Petersburg and will focus on building better public-private relationships at the regional level. The five ULI District Councils that received the grant were ULI North Florida, ULI Central Florida, ULI Southeast Florida/Caribbean, ULI Southwest Florida and ULI Tampa Bay.
