About 90 local business executives, many from Downtown, spent part of their Thursday “behind bars” at EverBank Field making calls to friends, family and business colleagues to raise money and post “bail” to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Mary McGee of Bishop Home Care and Ron Howell of the Northeast Florida Community Action Agency were two of the people “locked up” to raise funds for the local chapter’s annual fundraiser, the largest of the year, said Jessica Smith, MDA Jacksonville East District fundraising coordinator. Last year, the event raised more than $165,000, she said, and the goal this year was to at least match that. She said the typical “bail” was $3,200, which can provide assistance to a family for a year. “Many of these business executives don’t actually know anyone with MD but they volunteer their time anyway,” Smith said. “It means more to us than they know.”
