A confirmation hearing in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization case of former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Mark Brunell is scheduled Dec. 5 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Jacksonville.
“We are looking forward to bringing closure to this process so that Mark and his family can keep their focus on doing positive things to improve the community,” said Brunell’s attorney, Michael Freed, Florida managing partner with the Brennan, Manna & Diamond firm.
Objections to the confirmation are due by Nov. 21.
Confirmation is the discharge of all debts, excluding those specified as not dischargeable in the bankruptcy code. Both the debtor and the creditors are bound by the terms of the confirmed plan.
Brunell, 41, is playing in a reserve role with the New York Jets. Lawyers said in recent bankruptcy court filings that Brunell intends to return to his Ponte Vedra Beach home after his football career and possibly take a job as a medical sales representative.
Brunell filed for protection under Chapter 11 on June 25, 2010, citing failed business partnerships related to real estate investments. He listed assets of $5.5 million and liabilities of $24.7 million.
