Not just another brick

When a building is more than 80 years old, it takes a lot of work – and money – to keep it maintained.

When the goal is to preserve one of Downtown’s most historic entertainment venues, it’s an even bigger challenge.

Toward that goal, The Florida Theatre established a commemorative brick program to allow supporters to contribute to the historic venue’s maintenance while securing a permanent place at the theater for themselves and their families.

For an investment starting at $150, a brick paver is custom-inscribed and installed in front of the theater.

The latest batch of bricks was carefully put in place Wednesday in the sidewalk along Forsyth Street.

More than 100 people and businesses joined their fellow Florida Theatre supporters alongside bricks inscribed by Melissa Etheridge, B.B. King, Tony Bennett, Jackson Browne and other artists who have performed there.
