How did you get involved?
I participated in Teach For America for inner-city elementary school children when I was in college and the experience changed my life. I saw getting involved at ESJ as a way to get back into the youth academic environment and try to make a positive impact in our community.

How can someone else get involved?
Everyone should find a way to get involved with our local education system or their alma mater, most of which have alumni associations, academic outreach programs, community service projects, classroom volunteers, sporting events and mentoring programs. They don’t just want your money, they need help.

What have you learned/achieved through the experience?
My grandfather used to tell me that education is the only thing no one can ever take from you, and will be the springboard to success in life. We all forget too quickly that our education was the starting point for where we are today. Getting on campus, volunteering for mentoring programs for students and having a positive impact on young student lives is very gratifying.

What was the last book you read or are reading?
“The Big Short,” by Michael Lewis
