• Andy Downs, an aviation security expert and author, will talk about “Hijacking & Hostages: The Need for Law Enforcement and Aviation Crews to Work Together.” The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Jacksonville University in the Gooding Auditorium. The event marks the 40th anniversary of the first fatal aircraft hijacking in America. Downs will discuss the events that led to the death of his father, Capt. Brent Downs, and Susan Giffe, the estranged wife of hijacker George Giffe Jr. He will talk about the necessary communication required between law enforcement and flight crews that could prevent future tragedies. • Adams Interior Contractors Inc. will handle renovations for Normandy Dentistry at 7885 Normandy Blvd. A building permit issued Friday shows a $621,743 construction cost for interior and façade renovations.

• The City also issued a permit for a $1.1 million addition to the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir at 7500 Merrill Road. D.R. Patel Construction LLC is the contractor for the one-story, 18,260-square-foot Hindu temple addition.

• A list of six candidates was sent by the Fourth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission Friday to Gov. Rick Scott to consider for the replacement of Circuit Judge Fred Tygart, who will retire at the end of June. The candidates include County Judge Roberto Arias, County Judge Tyrie Boyer, Assistant Public Defender Alan Chipperfield of the Eighth Judicial Circuit, attorney for Nassau County David Hallman and attorneys Harvey Jay III and Michael Sharrit. Scott is reviewing the same list to fill an opening created by the retirement of Circuit Judge Haldane Taylor. He plans to step down at the end of the year.
