Thirty members of the Florida section of the American Society of Landscape Architects gathered Tuesday to recognize the contributions to the profession of one of their own, Hilton Meadows.

After lunch at the Skyline Conference Center at Bank of America Tower, Meadows received the inaugural Jeffrey Siegel Leadership Award.

Siegel, who died in 2009, was a two-time past president of the Florida section of ASLA and is remembered for his leadership in the profession and as a role model.

“He was an incredible advocate for our profession,” said Kevin Cavaioli, FLASLA past president.

Meadows was selected as the first recipient of the award by a panel of past presidents in recognition of his contributions to advancing and preserving landscape architecture as a profession in Florida.

President-elect Emily O’Mahoney said Meadows is regarded by his peers as a tireless advocate for their field and an influential representative at the state capital.

“Hilton truly represents our profession and he’s well-known in Tallahassee. This is a leadership award, so it might not be given every year,” she said.
