The Adrian Pickett Gallery at the Landing is hosting the Jr. Jax Art Expo Saturday to exhibit the work of 14 artists ages 9-17. The event was conceived as a way to mentor young, aspiring artists and introduce them to the business side of cut.

“When I was a kid, there was no place to show my art. It ended up on the refrigerator. This is an opportunity for the young artists to show their talent to the community and understand there is a career in art,” said Pickett.

Submissions will be judged by a popular vote from the community. The winner will receive a solo exhibit and art supplies. Each artist in the show has donated one of his or her works for auction with the proceeds benefiting Boy Scout Troop 535.

The exhibition is scheduled from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in conjunction with the Landing’s Fall Family Festival.

More than 20 vendors will offer activities, arts and crafts and merchandise. Live entertainment, trick-or-treating and prizes also are on the agenda.

Sponsors of the Jr. Art Expo are Adrian Pickett Gallery, Bee Gallery, Aly Cat, Hooters, First Coast No More Homeless Pets, Faber-Castell, the Jacksonville Landing and River City Gourmet Shoppe.

The expo drew entries from North Florida, Tallahassee and Orlando, said Elonya Davis, Adrian Pickett Gallery curator.

“We’re already planning the second annual expo for next year,” she said.
