Just in time for the Florida-Georgia game, Jacksonville’s biggest football weekend of the year, the new Fionn MacCool’s Irish pub at the Landing is open for business.
Building on its more than six years of success in Jacksonville Beach, the new Downtown bar and restaurant is billed as “casual dining in an uptown atmosphere.”
Open seven days a week, MacCool’s has brought from the beach its menu of traditional pub fare, such as fish and chips, bangers and mash and lamb stew, along with steaks, seafood, sandwiches and salads, to the riverfront retail and entertainment center.
MacCool’s General Manager Paul Glaser said as soon as he walked into the space, the former Copper Cellar and Southend Brewery, he and the MacCool’s team knew it had the right elements for a second location.
“Our staff has done a lot of research and visited pubs all over the world. We were impressed with the site,” he said.
Landing General Manager Janice Lowe said Sleiman Enterprises, owner of the property, approached the owners of MacCool’s to discuss the possibility of a second location.
“We think Downtown needs a pub and a pub needed to be in that spot. They have a great concept,” she said.
Opening two weeks before the Gators and Bulldogs arrive for their annual gridiron skirmish has given MacCool’s a head start on being ready as Downtown’s newest hospitality destination.
“The staff has done a remarkable job. We’ve hired some great people and we still have the opportunity to hire some more. We’re very pleased,” said Glaser.
MacCool’s opens at 11 a.m. Happy hour is 4-7 p.m. daily.
A children’s menu is available and Glaser is taking reservations for private parties.
