• Gov. Rick Scott appointed Aaron Bowman, BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards director of business operations, to the Florida Inland Navigation District. His term began Tuesday and ends Jan. 9, 2015. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

• Commuter alert: On Monday, the Florida Department of Transportation plans to start resurfacing almost 3 miles of Southside Boulevard from Cargal Street to north of Atlantic Boulevard. The $3.8 million project should be finished next summer. The work involves resurfacing Southside Boulevard and the adjacent service roads, in addition to adding another left turn lane for traffic heading south on Southside turning east on Atlantic. Look for lane closings from 7:30 p.m.-7 a.m. on Southside and 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on the service roads.

• The two SaveRite stores in Jacksonville are being converted into Winn-Dixies. The City issued building permits Tuesday for Williams & Rowe Co. Inc. to renovate the SaveRites at 1012 Edgewood Ave. S. and 201 W. 48th St. W. The project costs total $341,284. Winn-Dixie announced in August it would convert all of its remaining six SaveRite grocery stores in the system into conventional Winn-Dixie stores and discontinue the SaveRite banner.

• In other permits: ZMG Construction Inc. will remodel the Hunters Ridge at Deerwood clubhouse at 10100 Baymeadows Road at a project cost of $561,478; Honest Construction Inc. will handle the $48,750 tenant build-out for a skin-care medical office at 9889 Gate Parkway N., Unit 305.

• Florida Rep. Janet Adkins appointed Alexis Zink as the District 12 communication director. She will be responsible for communications and working with citizens throughout the district. She will work from the Fernandina Beach office.

• Jacksonville Port Authority CEO Paul Anderson testified Wednesday before the U.S. House of Representatives’ Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee at a hearing titled “The Economic Importance of Seaports: Is the United States Prepared for 21st Century Trade Realities?” Citing Jacksonville and North Florida as the center of shifting global trade trends impacting the U.S. East Coast, Anderson called on subcommittee members to assist all ports in generating new jobs by investing in infrastructure, harbor projects and supporting private investment in critical projects.
