The Women’s Giving Alliance, an initiative of The Community Foundation in Jacksonville, has awarded $244,000 in grants to eight Northeast Florida agencies serving women and girls.
Those receiving funding in Duval County are:
• $44,500, The Children’s Campaign Inc., Justice for Girls, which is working to change the treatment of girls in the juvenile justice system.
• $37,000, PACE Center for Girls, for PACE Works!, to work with PACE alumnae ages 16-25 helping them transition from foster care.
• $36,000, Jewish Family & Community Services, for a program for teen girls ages 13-17 who will age out of foster care.
• $34,000, I.M. Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless, to benefit the aftercare services for single women exiting the shelter.
• $29,500, the National Council on Crime and Delinquency Center for Girls and Young Women, for a program to help keep at-risk elementary school girls in school and increase academic and social success.
• $20,000, Girl Scouts of Gateway Council, for a program providing mentors to at-risk middle school girls.
In Nassau County:
• $22,500, Barnabas Center Inc., to expand health services allowing screenings for women at risk for breast and cervical cancers.
In St. Johns County:
• $20,500, Safety Shelter of St. Johns County Inc., Betty Griffin House, partial funding for Betty Griffin House Rape Crisis Center.
