In an effort to promote collegiality and professionalism between the bench and bar, The Jacksonville Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section hosted a judicial breakfast recently at the Duval County Courthouse.

“A lot of young lawyers don’t see the inside of a courtroom and this is a good way for them to introduce themselves to judges,” said Patrick Kilbane, YLS board of governors member and organizer of the event.

“Plus it’s great for young lawyers looking for jobs and to network with their colleagues,” he said.

The YLS welcomed judges from the Circuit Family Division and County Court.

The format of the breakfast depends on the crowd. Sometimes there is a question-and-answer session with the judges in attendance and other times guests are free to mingle with judges and ask questions on their own.

Kilbane was appreciative of the judges who attended to speak to the 40 young lawyers who attended.

“It speaks to the quality of the judiciary in the Circuit that they care enough to spend time with and educate the young lawyers coming into the Circuit,” said Kilbane.

There will be more judicial events. A lunch is being planned with federal judges in December and a breakfast is being developed with Circuit Civil, Criminal, Probate and Dependency Judges in February.
