• The combined Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department and Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office color guard opened the City’s ceremony Tuesday evening marking the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

• Acosta Sales & Marketing Chief Marketing Officer Ramin Eivaz, presented a check for $2.8 million to the Muscular Dystrophy Association during the 2011 MDA Telethon on Sunday. The contribution represents Jacksonville-based Acosta’s year-round fundraising efforts for MDA. It has been an MDA national sponsor for 26 years. Its associates and customers raised money through MDA’s Aisles of Smiles program with supermarkets and other retail stores nationwide. The 46th annual MDA Labor Day Telethon raised $61.5 million during the six-hour event.

• Autumn begins Sept. 23, and that means the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce presents the 6th Annual “Endless Summer Beach Bash” the night before. The event is 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Courtyard by Marriott – Oceanfront. For information, call 273-5366 or email [email protected].

• The Guild of the Jacksonville Symphony added Catherine Grossholz to its staff. She is responsible for all aspects of The Guild’s administrative duties and brings more than 25 years of experience after retiring from Bank of America as a senior operational risk manager.

• Ben Warner, president and CEO of Jacksonville Community Council Inc., and Dawn Gilman, executive director of Jacksonville’s Emergency Services and Homeless Coalition, will talk about “Building Consensus and Facilitation” from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the JCCI conference room. • JCCI also plans the “Children: 1-2-3” study orientation meeting from 8:15-9:45 a.m. Oct. 12 at JCCI. The study will look into public policy and child-preparation options for Duval County’s 5,000 children ages 1-3 at risk of arriving at kindergarten at age 5 unprepared for learning.

• JASMYN, the Jacksonville Area Sexual Minority Youth Network, scheduled its “5th Annual Coming Out Day Breakfast,” a fundraising event that attracts corporate LGBT affinity groups and supporters, from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Oct. 14 at the University Center at the University of North Florida. Allyson Robinson, deputy director of diversity with the Human Rights Campaign, will be the keynote speaker. Sponsorships are available and both individual and table tickets are on sale. • The Ted Hires Legacy Dinner is scheduled 6:30-9 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Morocco Shrine Center. The dinner was established by the Justice Coalition and community leaders as a tribute to coalition founder Ted Hires. During the event, an outstanding citizen, business leader and government official will receive awards for their contribution to helping victims of violent crime. • The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a trip to Spain March 10-17. It’s $2,499 for chamber members and $2,599 for non-members. The deadline to register is Oct. 11. An informational meeting is planned 5:30-7 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Jacksonville Marriott Southpoint. The trip includes stays in Madrid and Barcelona.

• Kerri Stewart, who served as chief administrative officer for former Mayor John Peyton, joined Infinity Global Solutions LLC as senior vice president as of Tuesday. She joins Jim Gilmore, Jim Catlett, Lindsey Ballas Kimball and Dylan Rumrell as key players in the economic-development and governmental-affairs firm.
