• Another M*A*S*H star soon takes the stage at The Alhambra Theatre & Dining. Jamie Farr, who played Maxwell Klinger in the popular TV series, will star in “Lend Me a Tenor,” which runs Sept. 21-Oct. 16. • The TealTown Downtown Block Party is Friday. Starting at 6 p.m., the street festival takes place along Bay Street between Liberty and Market streets. The party celebrates the first regular season Jacksonville Jaguars game Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. Along with interactive games and events, Downtown bars, clubs and restaurants will offer special promotions.
• Downtown workers and visitors take note: The Bay Street closure for the TealTown party starts at 10 a.m. Friday. Bay Street will be closed between Liberty and Market streets until 3 a.m. Saturday. For more information about the party, visit www.jaguars.com.
• The Spinnaker, the weekly student-operated newspaper at the University of North Florida, has expanded its distribution off campus. Starting this week, the free paper is available at Applebee’s in the St. Johns Town Center; at Mellow Mushroom and Wild Wings Café in the Southside; and the Pita Pit and the Green Room Brewery in Jacksonville Beach. It plans a Downtown box soon, too. In addition to being available on campus, the paper now can better reach the students who live off campus. Spinnaker Editor-In-Chief Chance Ryan said the move “signifies the Spinnaker as a prestigious college newspaper.”
• Jacksonville-based FIS, which provides banking and payments technology, won two industry awards honoring credit and debit card authorization and Everlink, an FIS company that provides electronic transaction switching, ATM and point-of-sale solutions. FIS won a Service Quality Performance Award from Visa, while Everlink received a Silver award from Advanced Card Technologies Canada.
• The St. Johns River Water Management District governing board will accept applications for the position of executive director until 5 p.m. Sept. 21. The search committee to replace Kirby Green, who retires Oct. 3, will review and narrow the field of candidates on Sept. 23 and make a recommendation for the board to consider at its Oct. 11 public meeting.
