The Fourth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission will review a list of 17 applicants for the seat that will be vacated when Circuit Judge Fred Tygart retires at the end of the year.

The commission, chaired by attorney Wayne Alford, will interview applicants Oct. 14. It will send a list of recommended candidates to Gov. Rick Scott.

It already has interviewed some of the applicants for recent openings in the Circuit and County courts.

Applicants for the seat are:

• County Judge Roberto Arias

• Fourth Judicial Circuit Magistrate Lester Bass

• Suzanne Bass, of the Law Offices of Suzanne Bass

• County Judge Tyrie Boyer

• Assistant Public Defender for the Eighth Circuit Alan Chipperfield

• Katie Dearing, of Liles Gavin

• Rosa DuBose, Florida Coastal School of Law

• David Hallman, attorney for Nassau County

• County Judge Russell Healy

• Harvey Jay III, of Saalfield, Shad, Jay, Lucas & Stokes

• Andrew Kantor, of Brennan, Manna & Diamond

The commission recently sent lists of candidates to Scott for openings that will be created by the yearend retirement of Circuit Judge Haldane Taylor and the move of County Court Judge Kevin Blazs to Circuit Court.

Applicants must be able to fulfill the constitutional qualifications for the seat.

They must be residents of Duval, Clay or Nassau counties; registered Florida voters; and members of The Florida Bar for the past five years.
