• Dr. Daniel Wilson has been named vice president of the University of Florida Health Science Center-Jacksonville and dean of the College of Medicine-Jacksonville. Wilson has been chairman of psychiatry at Creighton University for the past 11 years. He will begin Feb. 1, replacing dean Dr. Robert C. Nuss, who is retiring.
• Ron Barton, departing executive director of the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission, notified associates Wednesday that he will enjoy “some well-deserved time off” after he leaves City employment Friday and will be doing some consulting work with two of his former colleagues and fellow partners at KPMG LLP. He’ll announce his next career step “in the near future,” he wrote in an email. Barton joined the JEDC in August 2005 as its third full-time director since its creation in 1997. Mayor Alvin Brown accepted his letter of resignation, made as part of a standard practice by department heads during administration transitions. Brown appointed a team to review the strategies of the JEDC and recommend how the City should handle economic development.
• The University of North Florida will host “An Evening with Linda Greenhouse” at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 in the Lazzara Performance Hall on campus. The Pulitzer Prize-winning legal writer will discuss “The Supreme Court and the Public: An Imperfect Dialogue.” The event is free and open to the public.
