• Delores Barr Weaver has joined the host committee for Girls Inc.’s Girls’ Rights Week reception May 3 at The University Club. Host committee members already include Deborah Gianoulis, Frances Bartlett Kinne, Helen Lane, Irene Lazzara and Audrey Moran. Duval County School Board Chairwoman Betty Burney is honorary chair and Dawn Lopez from WTEV TV-47 will be master of ceremonies.

• According to state Rep. Lake Ray, Gov. Rick Scott has signed two bills of local impact. The first, HB 1253, allows the City to amend or repeal the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission, which Mayor Alvin Brown has sought as part of his overall economic development reform effort. The second, HB 59, revises spaceport territories and will aid Cecil Spaceport efforts. Ray was the sponsor of both bills.

• First Coast News stations WTLV and WJXX won a regional Edward R. Murrow Award. In the large market television category, First Coast News anchor Jeannie Blaylock won a regional award for her story on the recovery of triple amputee Tyler Southern, a local Marine who was injured in Afghanistan. The stations are owned by Gannett Co. Inc.

• Orange Park Medical Center has completed its emergency department expansion and renovation, nearly doubling its size by adding 13,000 square feet of space, with a total of 44 new rooms. The $19 million project began in February 2011.

• Ryan Andrews has joined TRC Staffing Services as an executive, technical and health care recruiter. He previously was at PPR Healthcare in Jacksonville Beach and LocumTenens.com in Atlanta. He is a Jacksonville native.
