JEA began the process of pulling a 6,700-foot-long pipe under the St. Johns River ahead of schedule, at noon Monday according to Greg Corcoran, JEA spokesman. The traffic changes along the Arlington Expressway from the foot of the Mathews Bridge will be in effect until 2 p.m. Thursday. JEA closed one of two eastbound lanes on the Arlington Expressway, along with eight on/off ramps, to allow for the assembly of the pipeline. It will connect water systems on the south and north banks of the river near the Mathews Bridge. The pipeline was created by welding together 168 40-foot sections of 36-inch diameter pipe.
