As we approach 100 years, the Financial News & Daily Record starts another chapter today.

Today, Karen Mathis becomes a full-time Daily Record columnist, creating a metro business beat and writing five days a week.

Two and a half years ago, Karen joined our newspaper as managing editor. Her addition to our editorial staff demonstrated our commitment of bringing our readers business news every day.

Our goal is to continue to improve the way we deliver that news to our community. With Karen’s leadership, we have continued to hone our product to be a more efficient and effective news source.

With her skills and competitive nature, Karen truly enjoys every facet of writing and reporting.

Her column won’t just be opinion.

Because we all have an opinion, my guess is you prefer to form your own. Our goal is to provide information that might help.

Along with information that formerly might have been contained in our popular City Notes feature published in this space, Karen’s focus will be to bring you that information as well as breaking news, background and insights to create a far more enhanced news source.

Readers that have been receiving our daily City Notes email blasts will receive The Mathis Report.

I want to encourage you to continue to send us your promotions, events and announcements. Starting next Wednesday, we will bring you an enhanced weekly City Notes page to feature some of the news and newsmakers in our town.

So keep that news coming.

In another change, Staff Writer David Chapman now will handle the daily story decisions and editing for the rest of the publication, so if you have a question about news coverage, call or email David.

For now, you can expect to read Karen’s column online at www.jaxdailyrecord.com as well as on the front page of the published Daily Record Tuesday through Friday and inside on Monday.

She can easily be reached with story ideas, news and tips by phone, email, text, tweet, Facebook, fax and U.S. mail, all listed at the end of her first column beginning today.

Of course, you can always reach me with comments and questions.

Bottom line, we have a staff of hard-working journalists who want to bring you quality news each and every day. We will continue to hone those skills and give them the opportunity to excel.

Let’s have some fun and share news in the process.
