How did you get involved?
Our paralegal, Valentina Chapman, volunteered at an Advance Directives for Seniors event earlier this year and enjoyed it so much that she encouraged me to get involved as well.
How can someone else get involved?
Contact Kathy Para, Esquire with JALA: [email protected] or 356-8371, ext. 363.
What have you learned/achieved through the experience?
I felt proud to be part of JALA’s program and was touched by the sincere gratitude of my clients. I have quickly learned in practice how important advance directives are and think it is awesome for JALA to provide access to these critical planning documents. I also found the program to be a great opportunity to meet other attorneys, especially those practicing in the same field, and to build confidence in my counseling skills.
What was the last book you read or are reading?
I just finished reading “Eat & Run” by Scott Jurek. The book describes his rise to ultramarathon fame and success. I enjoyed it both as motivation to keep running (I am new to the sport) and also as inspiration to use my mind to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
