Prudential Financial Inc. presented Step Up for Students with a $1 million contribution toward scholarships for low-income students. Officials with the company, nonprofit and elected officials were on hand for the presentation, including Scott Sleyster, Prudential chief investment officer; state Sen. Audrey Gibson; Doug Tuthill, Step Up for Students president, and Mike Jennings, Prudential vice president of governmental affairs. Prudential used the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program to redirect a portion of Florida tax liabilities to fund the scholarships. “It fits with what we are trying to do in dedication to education reform,” Gibson said.
