• Funeral services for County Judge Granville Burgess will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church at 9 N. Sixth St. in Fernandina Beach. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today in the Burgess Chapel of the Oxley-Heard Funeral Home, 1305 Atlantic Ave. in Fernandina Beach. Burgess, 63, died Thursday.
• Rogers Towers has announced Kenneth Bednar is a new shareholder in the firm. Bednar joins the firm's litigation department and will focus his practice on commercial litigation, real property and title disputes. Bednar previously worked at Fowler White Boggs and also has served as a shareholder and head of commercial litigation in the Florida offices of Hinshaw Culbertson.
• Thomas Edwards Jr. has been appointed to the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Management Council by Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Ricky Polston. Edwards is a senior partner at Edwards & Ragatz and past president of The Jacksonville Bar Association. The council was created this year to serve in an advisory function relating to the effective administration of justice by the Florida Court System. Its goal is to enable the judicial branch to better fulfill its mission to protect rights and liberties, uphold and interpret the law and provide peaceful resolution of disputes, among other goals. The council comprises 15 voting members, including the chief justice and one other justice.
• Morgan & Morgan has hired Steven Earle to practice in its personal injury litigation section in Jacksonville. Earle formerly was a senior partner at Earle & Smith and joins 15 other attorneys at the firm's Downtown office.
• GrayRobinson has hired Adina Pollan of counsel to the firm's bankruptcy and creditors' rights practice. She joins the firm's Jacksonville office. Pollan has experience representing banks and lenders and her background includes bankruptcy and commercial litigation. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and her undergraduate degree from Emory University.
