How did you become involved?
As a transactional lawyer, I felt there was not much I could contribute in the way of pro bono service. I was thrilled to be contacted through my membership in the Business Section of The Florida Bar and asked to help with the Nonprofit Organizations Legal Forum. As for my work as a Mayor's Mentor, the mayor sent an email to many of the faculty and I signed up to be a mentor to a local high school student.
How can someone else become involved?
Contact Kathy Para at JALA or contact the mayor's office.
What have you learned/achieved through the experience?
The nuances of organizing a nonprofit corporation. I've also learned about some special organizations that do great work in this city.
What was the last book you read or are reading?
I'm in a book club that is reading "Sweet Tooth" by Ian McEwan. Other recent favorites: "Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn, "Where'd You Go, Bernadette?" by Maria Semple and "Beautiful Ruins" by Jess Walter.
