The February edition of First Wednesday Art Walk takes a look back in time that Downtown Vision Inc. is calling “The Vintage Years.”
The Museum of Contemporary Art along Laura Street at Hemming Plaza is offering free admission, courtesy of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, for the new feature exhibit “Refocus: Art of the 1960s.”
Spanning two floors of the museum, it’s a collection of work by artists Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg and others who started trends in contemporary art that continue to guide painters, sculptors, performance artists, digital artists and photographers.
Also at MOCA, University of North Florida art professor Nicholas de Villiers is scheduled to present a program in the museum’s auditorium. A collection of Andy Warhol’s classic, black-and-while silent film portraits will be screened.
CoWork Jax, the new cooperative office and work environment on Forsyth Street above Perdue Office Interiors, is hosting its inaugural Art Walk in partnership with Bold City Brewery and the JAXUSA Partnership of JAX Chamber. There is an “Innovate NEFL” networking event for young professionals scheduled 5:30-6:30 p.m.
On the walls at CoWork Jax, view comic book-inspired paintings by Mark George.
At the Main Library, photographer David Williams will be showing “Moment in Time,” a visual tour of Jacksonville’s African-American history, culture and lifestyle from the 1980s-present.
At the W.A. Knight Lofts on West Adams Street, Thief in the Knight and Dig Foods present an a la carte vegan dinner with handmade and vintage gifts in the Whistling Princess boutique.
Art Walk is from 5-9 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month, rain or shine.
More than 15 Downtown venues offer live music during Art Walk and many restaurants, lounges and clubs are open beyond 9 p.m. Street parking is free after 6 p.m. and free covered parking is available after 5 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month in the garage at Adams and Clay streets.
