AT&T announced this week it has appointed Joe York as vice president of legislative and regulatory affairs for AT&T Florida.

York will be responsible for all legislative and regulatory affairs in Florida following a reorganization after the retirement of Jerry Hendrix, the former vice president of regulatory affairs, at the end of 2011.

“We know that Joe will do a great job in this expanded role,” said Marshall Criser III, president of AT&T Florida.

“His experience will continue to be an asset to our customers and communities as we move ahead in this exciting era in communications technology,” he said.

York will continue to be based out of Jacksonville. He most recently served as the vice president of legislative affairs with AT&T Florida.

Before that he served as the regional director of corporate and external affairs for BellSouth in Central Florida.

He also will be responsible for AT&T’s activities in regulatory and state consumer affairs.

“I am excited about this opportunity that comes at a time when our company continues to be a leader in some new and exciting areas — in TV and entertainment, wireless and other services,” York said in the news release.

“I am deeply committed to working with the state’s leadership, which has helped create an environment that encourages innovation and investment in the state,” he said.

York also serves on the board of directors for the Jacksonville Port Authority as its secretary. He was a gubernatorial appointment in 2010.

He also serves on the Associated Industries of Florida board of directors and its executive committee.
