The Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association welcomed an expert on fashion to its monthly meeting Thursday to provide some tips on do’s and don’ts for the wardrobe.

Gari Greenwald has more than 20 years of experience in the business and fashion worlds working with A.A. Fashion Merchandising Art Institute of Atlanta and the John Casablancas Modeling and Career Center.

She discussed some wardrobe must-haves for women.

“You need a tailored suit in a neutral color, black, brown, navy, grey. That suit will serve you so many ways professionally as well as socially,” said Greenwald.

A white menswear shirt was another necessary piece of the wardrobe.

“It looks great under a suit. It looks great with jeans. It looks great with everything,” said Greenwald.

Dark wash jeans also should be included in the closet.

“You can dress it up. You can wear it casually, with a flat or a heel,” said Greenwald.

She also suggested that an animal pattern should be a part of a woman’s wardrobe.

“You should all have at least one thing in your closet that is an animal pattern,” said Greenwald. “Whether it’s your handbag or a pair of shoes, or a scarf, or a belt, it’s a great accessory.”

She also talked about some of the recommended wardrobe practices.

“Shoes and handbags don’t have to match, be in the same color, but they should blend. They should be in the color family or opposite colors,” said Greenwald. “Animal print, only one at a time.”

She recommended that the best dress length for every woman is knee-length.
