• Attorney General Pam Bondi reappointed Nancy Peek McGowan to the Florida Commission on the Status of Women. McGowan began a career in politics in the U.S. Senate as a legislative intern while attending the University of Florida, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1982. She is a community volunteer and a member of the executive board of the Justice Coalition.
• Mayor Alvin Brown has invited Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus to Jacksonville at noon today at City Hall and then to lunch at EverBank Field to discuss the Navy’s fiscal 2013 budget and its impact on Northeast Florida naval bases, ships and personnel. Lunch is hosted by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
• Dale Malloy, president and CEO of The Blood Alliance, will retire effective Oct. 1, 2013. The board said Monday a succession planning committee has been conducting a search for his replacement and will announce a new CEO later this year. Mallow will remain with the alliance part-time starting in October until his full retirement.
• The JAX Chamber Health Council hosts Brian Klepper, chief development officer for WeCare TLC, who will discuss “Really Changing Health Care” at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Brighton Bay Resort. Klepper is a national health care analyst and managing principal of Healthcare Performance Inc. in Atlantic Beach. He will talk about health care costs, quality and the current system.
