The Riverside trolley has a new route that’s opened up more Downtown dining opportunities for people who live and work in Five Points and along Riverside Avenue.

It also makes it easier for Downtowners to take advantage of a ride to Riverside with no parking required.

The new route is laid out five blocks farther north, all the way to Church Street and along Broad Street and Laura Street. That puts more of Downtown’s lunch destinations along the loop, including the row of restaurants along West Adams Street between Laura and Hogan streets.

The new track also makes it convenient for more people Downtown, including those who work near Hemming Plaza, to take the trolley to Five Points.

The 8-mile round trip goes as far as Memorial Park in Riverside before heading along Riverside Avenue back to the urban core.

The first trolley leaves the Northbank at Water Street and Hogan Street at 6 a.m. Monday-Friday and at 8:40 a.m. Saturday. The last return trip to Downtown leaves Post Street at Riverside Park at 7:20 p.m. Monday-Friday and at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Trolleys are scheduled 20 minutes apart during the week and one hour apart on Saturday.

The regular fare is $1 each way. People with disabilities may show a valid reduced fare card from any transit agency or a valid Medicare card and ride for 25 cents. Passengers who are 60 years of age and older may ride free upon presentation of a valid government-issued picture ID showing their birthdate.
