• Gov. Rick Scott appointed Francis “Frank” Mackesy to the Jacksonville Aviation Authority to succeed Jack Demetree. Mackesy has been the director of emergency and security training at Florida State College at Jacksonville since 2011. He was undersheriff of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office from 1979-2011. His term began Wednesday and ends Sept. 30, 2015. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

• The University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute will unveil a collection of artwork created by patients and their families, staff and faculty. Artist-in-residence Barbara Holmes-Fryefield holds art workshops in the lobby for patients and their families as a diversion from treatment from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Artwork from these gatherings will be displayed in a gallery setting in one of the facility’s meeting rooms. 

• Bethel Baptist Institutional Church will host a free “Healthy Heart Program” from 9 a.m.-noon Feb. 11 at the church’s multipurpose room. It is open to the public. The church is at 215 Bethel Baptist St. in Springfield. RSVP by calling 534-2448 by Feb. 5. The event is sponsored by the Healthy Bethel Ministry, St. Vincent’s HealthCare and Medtronic.

• Joni Foster, former executive director of Local Initiatives Support Corp. Jacksonville, will join Rural Community Assistance Corp. in West Sacramento, Calif., Feb. 1 as its housing program director. Since leaving Jacksonville in 2010 to move to rural Texas, Foster has been a consultant to NeighborWorks, LISC and other groups engaged in community development.
