• The protest by black City Council members over committee assignments continued Tuesday, the second day of meetings of the Council year. Members Denise Lee, Reggie Brown and Kimberly Daniels did not attend the 2 p.m. Recreation and Community Development meeting, while Lee and Council member Warren Jones were absent from the 5 p.m. Land Use and Zoning Committee. They resigned committee membership assignments to protest Council President Bill Bishop’s appointments. He then appointed Daniels to chair the Public Health and Safety Committee, which he split from the Recreation and Community Health Committee. Daniels chaired the public health committee Monday.
