• Council members John Crescimbeni and Lori Boyer filed a resolution to allow the Office of General Counsel to commence litigation to determine the eligibility of current Clerk of Courts Jim Fuller to run for or be elected to the same office for the 2013-16 term. The question of Fuller’s eligibility has been an issue in light of a ruling by the Florida Supreme Court on term limits by constitutional officers.
• Council member Clay Yarborough filed a resolution to direct the Office of General Counsel, with the Council Auditor and Supervisor of Elections, to research and report on methods for the construction processes available to consolidate, relocate and house the Supervisor of Elections canvassing board and warehouse facilities from Gateway Town Center to 816 W. Union St., which is known as the “Sax Property.”
• Also introduced, a resolution at the request of Mayor Alvin Brown to appoint Robert Spohrer to the Jacksonville Port Authority board of directors to replace Steve Busey, the board’s current chairman. The appointment is for a first full term that will expire Sept. 30, 2015. Busey conducted his first meeting Monday in the leadership role.
• The City OK’d a sign permit for Black Sheep at 1534 Oak St. in Five Points. The Facebook page for Black Sheep Restaurant Group says it is accepting applications and resumes for all positions. “Though we don’t expect to make any firm hiring decisions until the first of August, we will be hiring 60+ people, so we want to have time to give every qualified applicant an interview via phone or in person,” it says.
