• University of North Florida President John Delaney says he doesn’t intend to apply for the job as president of the University of Florida to succeed Bernie Machen, who plans to retire next year. Delaney served as Jacksonville’s mayor from 1995-2003 and then became president of UNF. He earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Florida. “One’s alma mater always has a draw. Nine members of my family went to UF, including my two oldest children. I met and married Gena there while I was still in law school. I’ve had football season tickets for 38 years, and go to most of the bowl games,” Delaney said in an email. “But I am a Jacksonville guy, and a UNF guy. All of my four children are here, as is our extended family (with one exception) and my elderly parents. I plan on staying put and have no intention of applying.”
