• Tabitha Furyk and Susan Smathers have been appointed to the Baptist Health Foundation board of trustees. Furyk is a philanthropist, community volunteer and children’s health advocate. She is a member of the PGA Tour Wives Association and co-founder of These Kids Can Play for The Players Championship. In 2010, she and her husband founded the Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation, which serves indigent children and families. Susan Gamble Smathers is an attorney, philanthropist and cultural leader. She chaired both the 2000-01 Florida Forum and the 2003 Art & Antiques Show and is the immediate past president of The Women’s Board of Wolfson Children’s Hospital. She is married to Bruce Smathers, a former state senator and former Florida secretary of state.

• City Council members Bill Bishop and Richard Clark issued a notice Wednesday morning that they canceled the joint Rules and Finance Committee meeting scheduled that afternoon to discuss economic development legislation. They said any decision on joint future meetings would be at the discretion of incoming committee chairs.

• Unison Industries founder Rick Sontag speaks this morning to the JAX Chamber’s second quarter CEO Nexus Forum. The event is 7:30-9 a.m. at the chamber. The forums host top-tier CEOs who share their experiences and steps to success with second-stage business owners. A second-stage business is defined as a privately held, Florida-based company beyond its initial startup growth and on the verge of expansion with 10 to 99 employees and annual revenues between $1 million and $49 million.
