Downtown’s first official festival party of 2012, the 7th annual Parrot Heads in Natural Settings Gumbo Festival, is Saturday at the Landing.

Some of Jacksonville’s most dedicated Jimmy Buffett fans and a few professional chefs will begin stirring gumbo at 10 a.m.

With a $10 donation, tasting any or all of the entries begins at 1:30 p.m. followed by voting for the “People’s Choice” award.

Prizes also will be awarded for showmanship and a panel of celebrity judges will select this year’s best entries in the amateur and restaurant categories.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to Gleaner’s Dispatch Inc., a local nonprofit food bank that collects and distributes perishable food items to people in need.

The George Aspinall Band will be on stage from noon-4 p.m. in the courtyard, followed by Jimmy Parrish and the Ocean Waves from 7-11 p.m.
