The Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women announced that five women were chosen as 2012 Women’s History Month honorees.

• Audrey Moran – Senior vice president, Social Responsibility & Community Advocacy, Baptist Health.

• Mary Setzler — Founder, PFC. Tavarus D. Setzler Foundation.

• Laine Silverfield — Former executive director, Dreams Come True.

• Ann Baker — The late Ann Baker was a longtime community activist and visionary.

• Derya Williams — The late Derya Williams is former CEO of River Region Human Services Inc.

The commission selects women for their contributions to the Jacksonville community.

“These women epitomize this year’s theme, ‘Women in Motion,’” said a news release from the mayor’s office. The poster honorees were selected from nominations received from individuals, women’s organizations, agencies and businesses.

The commission and the Thomas G. Carpenter Library at the University of North Florida will host a reception in their honor from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday at the library on the UNF campus.

Each of the honorees will be featured on a commemorative poster that will be unveiled at the reception. The poster will be placed in the permanent collection of commemorative Women’s History Month posters at the library.

The commission’s purpose is to develop a public consciousness of the talents of women, regardless of race, color or creed; to encourage women to become actively involved in matters pertaining to the community; and to work toward the utilization of capable women in roles of leadership.
